Asymmetrical Symmetry

My mommy showed me a cool way to make symmetrical patterns by painting on half of a paper then folding it to fill the other half of it. When I made these paintings, I was hoping that they will be symmetrical but after numerous attempts, I figured out that I cannot really make them perfectly symmetrical no matter how much I try, no matter how carefully I fold the paper. I was disappointed but mommy told me that what makes them so special is the fact that they are asymmetrical as nothing in this world is really symmetrical or perfect but these imperfections and flaws make them perfectly beautiful and unique.

Why do I like making this collection?

I love working on this collection because it involves setting the parameters and then trusting the process. I don’t have full control over how the paintings will look like but I can decide which colors to use and where to place them. My mummy told me it’s a little bit like in real life. You can control something but sometimes you have to let go a bit and let it flow. I don’t fully understand it yet but she said when I’m bigger I will.

Also, the results always surprise me… every single time! They are always different, even when you put the same colors.
